It’s that time of the year again! The South African Music Awards are upon us and this morning, the nominations were finally announced. I am proud to say that I was very involved in the awards this year as a judge and it was really interesting to see how the whole process worked. I’m honoured that I was approached to be a judge especially that it’s the award’s 20th anniversary.

Interestingly, rockers Gangs of Ballet and dance superstars Mi Casa lead the pack this year with 5 nominations each. With 4 nominations each, Naima Kay and Nakhane Toure, both new faces, prove that newbies are taken just as seriously this year.

I was incredibly proud of Connell Cruise and GOODLUCK for their nominations and it was so great seeing how excited they were moments after finding out that they have been nominated. It’s fantastic to see just how diverse the nominees are this year and I think it’s proof that local really is lekker. Below are the nominees for the 20th South African Music Awards.

Yup, I took a selfie with Jules from GOODLUCK.

So proud of this dude! Connell Cruise was nominated for two awards.

Elvis Blue’s latest record was also nominated for an award.

The BEST picture EVER!!! Kurt Darren and Nakhane Toure.

The Muffinz were nominated for one award this year.
