My hearts still ache when I think of the devastating attach at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub last month which saw 49 people lose their lives in a heartless, senseless hate crime. This became the largest mass shooting and hate crime towards the LGBTQI community the United States has ever seen. Also, I woke up to news of the devastating attack in Nice, France this morning were over 80 innocent people lost their lives. Naturally, many celebrities spoke out against the heinous crime and many found ways to remember the innocent people who lost their lives.

Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda were both greatly affected by the Orlando tragedy and came together in song to pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives and have pledged to donate the money made from the song to the Hispanic Federation’s Proyecto Somos Orlando initiative, which ‘will address the long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual. Proyecto will enable care to be delivered to those affected directly in the communities in which they live. Beyond emergency assistance, they will be provided with case management, crisis intervention and mental health services, among other needs’.

The song spreads a positive message that the whole world should hear. Not only is the message so important, but it’s also a great track that easily fits in with what is popular in pop music at the moment. The production is fire and it’s great to see artists like Jennifer attaching their name and talent to music that can change the world.

The singer reveals she has been working on the song for months but after the devastating attack, she knew it was a song the world needed to hear as soon as possible. “I heard [the song] in a different way. I was like, ‘The world needs this right now. The world really needs the message of love being the answer,’” she said. “The world really needs the message of love being the answer. That’s what really matters; that’s what really makes the world go ‘round, nothing else. Hate, anger, it’s not gonna get us anywhere.”
