American songstress, Daya, is one of the artists to watch this year. She has already had an impressive 2016 thanks to the release of her smash debut single ‘Hide Away’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ – her collaboration with The Chainsmokers. Now, as she readies her debut album ‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’, the singer has released the title track as the next single off the project.

The track is another pop gem from the singer. It’s immaculately produced with a simple beat and catchy whistle throughout. The song has a subtle feminist message to it and it’s great to see Daya showing this side of her in song. The singer belts out a dynamic chorus which is bound to stay in your head for hours after hearing the song. Truthfully, the song has everything needed for it to become yet another success for the star and as much as I think she is going to be the next big thing in pop music, I’m a bit disappointed with the single. I can’t help but feel that there is something missing and it makes the song blend in to the already saturated pop market at the moment.

“It’s a girl power anthem about how women can do anything men can do, and we shouldn’t let anyone stand in the way of that,” Daya says. “I’ve always grown up with that knowledge, so I want to be sure to pass along that message. You should never be put into a mold based on your gender.” Unlike the track, however, Daya reveals that the new album won’t be as pop-heavy as this single but more chilled. I’m excited to see how she changes things up on the album – I have high hopes for it.
