Joburgers love their music but it’s only recently that we’ve been able to rival Cape Town with epic music festivals. However, while there are usually a flood of festivals at the end of the year, Breakout, the team behind the successful Parklife Festival, and City Parks have teamed up to create an epic monthly festival that is going to blow your socks off.

Large On The Lawn, Jozi’s epic new monthly festival, will take place on the last Sunday of the month and is the perfect excuse to spend a few hours out with friends and family on a blanket with wine and snacks and end the weekend off in style. Breakout and City Parks are bringing Gauteng a music environment that is cost-effective and allows people to come together with friends for a fun afternoon.

Large On The Lawn will take place at the Golden Harvest Park in Randburg which is situated near the Northgate Dome in the north of Johannesburg and is a pristine 55 hectare park with rolling walks around a dam and indigenous bushveld.

January and February’s headliners have already been announced and the festival is going big! Jeremy Loops and Matthew Mole are the first to grace the Large On The Lawn stage on Sunday 29 January while Afrikaans heavyweights Francois van Coke and Jack Parow will headline at the second instalment of Large On The Lawn on Sunday 26 February and more exciting announcements will follow for the March, April and June event line-ups. But, you want to get yourself to the inaugural festival because not only is Matthew Mole amaze, but it’s the first time in nine months that Jeremy Loops will be performing on South African soil.

What’s cool about the festival is that it’s incredibly chilled. Gates open at 1pm, with the show starting at 2pm and ending at 5pm – more than enough time to get home and chill on a Sunday evening. Picnic baskets and drinks are allowed (no glass will be allowed into the park), so concert-goers can pack their own food and drink for a relaxed picnic setting.
