Review: ZAYN By Zayn Malik
4.5Overall Score

A personal and honest look at Zayn Malik’s life after One Direction.

Plot: ZAYN opens up with this collection of thoughts, inspiration, and never-before-seen personal photographs. After five years of massive success with One Direction, ZAYN launched his career as a solo artist with Mind of Mine, becoming one of the most successful artists in the world. Now, for the first time ever, ZAYN is going to tell and show all in this intimate and raw scrapbook of his life. Never-before-released photos give readers insight to ZAYN, no-holds-barred. Gorgeously designed with hundreds of full-color photographs and Zayn’s notes, drawings, song lyrics, and personal stories, the book captures Zayn’s most private moments and his candid feelings on fame, success, music, and life. The next chapter of ZAYN’S evolution into global superstar, told by the artist who is living it.

Remarks: So many rumours swirled about why Zayn left One Direction when they were at the height of their career and in this book, Zayn puts the rumours to rest in the most open and honest way possible. The singer says that his fans need to know exactly what he was feeling and that this was one of the reasons he opted to write an autobiography. In ‘ZAYN’, the singer speaks a bit about his upbringing and life during One Direction but focuses on why he left the group, what happened in those months after and an in-depth inside look at the creation of his debut album ‘Mind of Mine’. Zayn also opens up about living with anxiety and how it has affected his career. What’s special about this book is that Zayn pours his heart and soul into telling his story. He wants his fans to hear everything from him and wears his heart on his sleeve. Here, Zayn proves that besides the superstardom, he is just a normal twenty-something year old trying to understand this thing called life. The book is also filled with incredible snapshots of the singer as he uses imagery to tell his story as well. A very interesting read.
