Shock waves rattled the local radio space when popular breakfast host Rian Van Heerden announced that he will be leaving Jacaranda FM after five years as host of The Complimentary Breakfast. Over the past 12 months, he has been ticking major items off his radio bucket list and now, as Rian finishes off his last month on air, Jacaranda FM has announced that drive-time host Martin Bester will officially be moving to the breakfast slot as Tumi Morake joins the station as his official co-host.

The two are expected to bring something fresh to the South African radio landscape. The two have big personalities and it will be interesting to see how their dynamic will translate on air. Both Martin and Tumi are consummate professionals in their respective fields. Martin has become one of the strongest radio DJs the country has seen while Tumi has been dominating the world of comedy. Tumi has also hosted shows like Our Perfect Wedding, Red Cake and the South African Music Awards and is excited to expand her career into the radio space.

“It’s a really exciting challenge – brand new, cutting-edge stuff. We’ve got a great team and I’m a fan of each player – especially Tumi,” Martin says. “I love her energy and sense of humour and the fact that she calls it as it is. Also, It’s a huge honour to have breakfast with the most influential, hardworking audience in the country and we can’t wait to get on air!”

Meanwhile, Tumi says this is a career-defining move for her. “Becoming a part of a brand-new breakfast show and cutting my teeth in radio is both daunting and exciting,” she admits. “This is a golden opportunity for me to work with one of the best radio presenters in South Africa and to also be his groupie when he sings! I have already learnt so much from Martin and the team are so dynamic!”

Jacaranda FM’s GM, Kevin Fine, says; “Martin and Tumi are at the top of their respective games and make the perfect combination for a brand-new, never been done before show – the audience will quickly fall in love with them.”

Breakfast with Martin Bester & Tumi Morake will hit the airwaves on 03 July 2017 between 6 and 9 am. The station has some exciting things lined up and will give away more than a quarter of a million rand during the show’s first week! This is a fresh and exciting line-up which is sure to disrupt the breakfast radio space.
