I’m starting a new feature on the blog today. I have a playlist on my iPod which has all my favourite songs in. One of my favourite things is to press the ‘shuffle’ button and be transported into yesteryear with the various songs that pop up. ‘When last?’ I often ask myself. So, every Thursday I’m going to revisit some of my favourite songs – starting with this banger from Flo Rida!
This epic banger was released in 2011 and was important because it was one of the first songs that catapulted Sia into the mainstream pop market. Shortly after release, the song became one of the most downloaded songs of all time (at the time) and has become one of Flo Rida and Sia’s greatest hits.
Sia reveals that she wrote the song in 15 minutes. She later said: “They asked me to record [“Wild Ones”] over and over for almost six months. Eventually I said, ‘OK, but don’t put my name on it.’ I was angry because we had already had this discussion. Jonathan said to me, ‘I don’t think I really believed you that you didn’t want to be credited or get the recognition you deserve.'” Sia also revealed that Katy Perry was supposed to appear on the song instead of her.
The song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved multi-platinum status in countries like the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark and Australia.
Did this song have as much of an effect on you or do you have a throwback Thursday track you can’t get enough of? Let me know in the comments section below?
