I’m not going to lie, I was distraught when I walked past Mugg And Bean on Montecasino’s Piazza recently and saw that it’s chapter at the entertainment complex has come to an end. When I enquired about the shock closing, the complex revealed that they’ve made some exciting changes to their culinary offerings at the complex and are planning on introducing some new, exciting merchants over the next few months.

In place of the popular Mugg And Bean, one of South Africa’s premium stakehouses is expected to open doors as The Hussar Grill readies it’s exciting new store at the complex. Wasabi, a fusion Oriental restaurant, is planning to open its doors soon in the old Gourmet Garage location while construction on a new Italian restaurant, Casa Bela, is underway opposite Skoobs.

However, one of the most exciting additions to the complex comes in the form of La Rosa Mexican Grille and Tequileria. I recently discovered the brand’s Weltevreden Park store and I was impressed with pretty much everything. The décor is phenomenal, the tequila is top-class and the food is exceptional. In fact, it’s easily the best Mexican food I’ve tasted in South Africa and I’m excited to see the brand branching out. Montecasino is the perfect location for the new store and it’s undoubtedly going to be one of the complex’s new standout restaurants.

On the fast food side, The Ocean Basket is moving from the food court to the piazza while Nandos finally arrives at the complex taking over the old Barcelos store.

“At Montecasino we’re all about keeping things fresh and new – and that applies to our restaurants and stores as much as to our entertainment offering, events, theatre productions, festivals and gaming promotions,” says Mike Page, newly appointed General Manager of Montecasino. “So while it make look like a building site for a few weeks, it’s all in the name of renewal and reinvention. We’re extremely excited about our new restaurant offerings, which really complement the existing mix within the Montecasino precinct. We apologise for the inconvenience during this period of changing over these facilities and look forward to bringing them to life over the next eight weeks.”

Change is needed to keep things fresh and I am excited to see all these new restaurants come to life at the complex over the next few weeks. Which new restaurant are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments section below!
