Over the past two weeks, Sam Smith has been teasing his major comeback. From videos to him in the studio to billboards around the world, the singer wanted to make sure that everyone knew he was ready to release a new single. Now, the song is here and, luckily, it doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it’s another perfect piece of raw, emotional pop which quickly reminds us why we fell in love with Sam Smith in the first place.

The song is Sam’s first single in two years and was written by Smith’s longtime collaborator Jimmy Napes, as well as the songwriting duo Stargate. “This song is about a relationship I was in and it’s basically about getting good at getting dumped,” Sam says of the new track. “It’s been a long while since I’ve put any music out and I feel that this first single sets the tone of what is to come.”

The song serves as the lead single to his upcoming second studio album. While there is no release date just yet, Sam promises the album (a 10-track and 14-track version) will be released before Christmas. The singer also explains that ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ is one of the more personal tracks on the album. “This album actually is not all about me. There’s about four songs that are about me, and the rest are about different things and different people in my life and what they’ve gone through.” As expected, the album is set to be even more emotionally heavier than his debut. “It’s really deep shit that’s coming out,” he said, adding: “I’m putting my heart even more out on the fucking line. I’m going even deeper. I can’t believe I’m even doing it, but I’m going even deeper.”
