Tholwana has come a long way since winning SA’s Got Talent back in 2014. Since then, she has been adamant to complete her schooling. However, the 17-year-old has still been dabbling in music. She has already released the hit singles ‘Hollywood Guy’ and ‘Playing On My Mind’ and now, she’s released her brand new EP and single ‘Warrior’ which, as expected, is burning up the charts. This week, Tholwana opens up about her first collection of music, the new single and shares a bit about her future.

You’ve taken some time off to finish school before making new music. You’re back now, How have you grown since your last single?

I’ve grown a lot since ‘Playing On My Mind’! I’ve experienced more of life as a teenager and I’ve had time to do a lot of introspection. I can confidently say that I feel a lot more at ease with myself and have been able to appreciate the little things in life.

‘Warrior’ is the lead single off your new EP. What makes this the perfect lead single off the project?

‘Warrior’ is just amazing! It’s a very vibey song and can resonate with all pop lovers! It serves as an introduction to my journey and I believe that it can be an anthem to all who have had to rise up from the ashes.

What inspired the track?

I went through a very rough patch while breaking up with my ex and my family was my biggest support. I wrote the song as a thank you to my family for helping me through my bad time.

The track sees you head in a new sonic direction. Tell us a bit more about that.

I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with pop music and I seem to have found my sound in Warrior. It places me in an all round pop category and is a great track to jam to.

What sparked the decision to release an EP at this point in your career instead of a full record?

I want people to know me before I throw a full album at them! An EP makes it so easy to build up a hype around releasing an album.

What has been the biggest lesson the music industry has taught you?
Patience! Good things are worth waiting for and the industry has definitely taught me to not rush success.

What do the next few months have in store for you?

Well, my EP has just released, but I’m still in matric so I have to focus on school as work. I’m just trying to juggle music and school right now. I will also be releasing my debut album ‘2.0.1.5.’ in January.
