Oh no! Popular TV presenter Lunga Shabalala has announced that he will officially be leaving SABC 1’s popular lifestyle and music show ‘Selimathunzi’. Although the star has enjoyed every moment on the show, he has other plans he hopes to execute and the timing felt right.

“It’s time for me to grow and explore other avenues in my career. I think I played my part and I’m leaving it to Khanya [Mkangisa] and [Siphesihle] Vazi to take over the show and they’re already doing a great job” Lunga said in an interview with Drum Magazine. “Leaving has been difficult but I came to a moment of realisation to know I need to continue evolving.”

The decision was made with a heavy heart as Lunga reveals that he had a great time hosting the show. “I have some great memories I will take with me. One of my best moments on the show was when we took some of the viewers to Zimbabwe two years ago to exchange some of their skills with our Zim viewers,” Lunga says. The star adds that “My biggest fans are my grandparents who have watched every episode of Selimathunzi and I will miss hearing the compliments.”

Although Lunga is exiting the show, he has promised fans that they’re going to be seeing more of him in 2018. He has a variety of exciting projects in the pipeline while still putting his presenting skills to good use on SABC 3’s ‘The Man Cave’ and can’t wait to share a few other surprises with the country soon.

Lunga’s last Selimathunzi show will air on Tuesday 28 November on SABC1 at 19:30.
