James Arthur continues to dominate the charts. ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ became one of the star’s biggest hits to date and as he readies to release his upcoming third studio album, the former The X Factor winner bares his heart and soul on his brand new single ‘Naked’. The song was written by pop pioneers Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Johan Carlsson and after initially pitching the song to Zara Larsson, the Brit jumped at the opportunity to record the song – and trusting his instincts paid off.
The song is already shooting up the charts around the world and hints that James’ upcoming album will dig a little deeper. The song is special because of it’s vulnerability. The song is about giving your all into a relationship and not having that passion and love reciprocated. James gives an emotional vocal delivery which helps elevate the message he is trying to get across. Despite the delivery, James continues to showcase his strong vocal and this is something that makes the song so special. The message is something so many people around the world are able to relate to and James’ ability to speak to his audience so openly has helped make this song so successful.
James says that as soon as he heard the song he knew he had to have it. However, besides the strong lyrical content, it was the production that excited him. “The four chords that introduce the song are key, I think,” James explains. “Then you get the crescendo, the middle eight, the huge final chorus, but there’s no sense of overload; it stays true to the simplicity of those four chords. It’s like a hymn, that devotional aspect. The minute you hear those chords, you want to sing over them.” The song is a great taste of what’s to come and we’re excited to see what else James has up his sleeve.
