This Sunday, M-Net’s highly-anticipated new reality show Dancing With The Stars South Africa will premiere. Like the international version, various celebrities are paired with dancing professionals and are thrown in the deep end where they will be judged and scored before opening the lines up for the public to cast their vote for their favourite. The celebrity with the least votes, will be eliminated. But, M-Net has kept mum on who those judges will be – until now!
The judges have a massive task on their hands. Their vote counts 50% of the final score so, naturally, M-Net needed to get the best of the best. The channel has already revealed that renowned reality show judge, choreographer to A-list stars, creative director of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and BAFTA nominee Jason Gilkinson signed up to bring his expertise to Dancing With The Stars SA. Now, the final two judges have been announced.
‘SA’s Queen of Dance’, Tebogo Kgobokoe and teacher extraordinaire Debbie Turner will also be adding their flair to the show. Both have a wealth of experience and will add a unique element to the show – something everyone is incredibly excited about.
Tebogo is known for her eye for technique and will be carefully watching the celebs’ every move. Tebogo started her career as a traditional dancer in the North-West Province and has since become a 10-time winner of the South African Professional Latin and Ballroom Championship and seven-time winner of the South African Professional Latin American Championship. Her passion for dance inspired her to open up the Tebogo Kgobokoe Arts Academy to foster local dance talent.
Meanwhile, Debbie has also made a name for herself in the world of dance. Debbie launched the Cape Academy of Performing Arts and is the founding Artistic Director of the renowned Cape Dance Company. She has worked with a variety of local and international teachers and choreographers and has starred in lead roles in international productions that include Cats, Dirty Dancing and The Lion King. Naturally, Debbie is incredibly excited about joining the panel. “I love dance in all its guises and genres, and so look forward to the theatrical fun and excitement of it all,” Debbie says. “Seeing celebrities working in other professions introduced and exposed to competitive dance in this wonderful way will be the highlight for me.”
The M-Net team is incredibly excited for the show to premiere and relaunching the concept here in South Africa after formally being known as Strictly Come Dancing South Africa. “We are honoured that high-in-demand experts like Jason, Tebogo and Debbie have agreed to be part of Dancing With The Stars SA,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “There will also be a fourth judge whose credentials will add gravitas to the show and the dancers have been handpicked to bring on pizazz, personality and perfect moves. It promises to be an extravaganza of note!”
The 12-week season premieres on Sunday 4 February 2018 at 17:00. Eliminations will take place from the third episode and the live elimination show will be live at 20:00 pushing the Sunday blockbuster out by 30 minutes. The season looks incredibly promising and we can’t wait to see what the show has up its sleeves.
