Although he’s yet to release his debut album, English singer MNEK has proven to be a phenomenal talent. He has written for artists such as Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Little Mix, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Bastille, JoJo and many more and his singles ‘The Rhythm’ and ‘Never Forget You’ with Zara Larsson impacted charts around the world. Now, the star is ready to put himself out there and after months of working on his upcoming debut album, MNEK has premiered ‘Tongue’ – the project’s lead single.
‘Tongue’ is unlike anything out at the moment and it’s originality and sensuality makes this song special. The track has a heavy electronic element to it production-wise and seems to throw away the pop rulebook. The song is about falling in love and being too afraid to say those magical three words: “I love you”. The star gives a melodic performance during the verse and pre-chorus before going into a spoken chorus which throws everything one expected from the song out the window. “I’m putting both hands over my mouth, I can only hope nothing’s going to come out,” the singer croons on the track. The lyrical content is something so many people around the world have experienced at some point in their lives and MNEK puts the experience beautifully into words.
“‘Tongue’ is one of my favourite songs from the album. It’s fun, it’s sexy, and it’s different to anything I’ve put out before,” the star says. “It is an indication of me taking risks with my new music. The album is something I’m so proud of because it’s an audio world I’ve created which is a true body of work. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.” The song has made us incredibly excited about the artist’s project and we’ll definitely have this track on repeat all weekend.
