Back in 2016, superstar DJ Avicii (otherwise known as Tim Bergling) announced his retirement from live performances as he announced a string of health reasons such as “acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking” took a toll on his physical wellbeing. Today, the 28-year-old DJ was found dead in Oman, publicist Diana Baron confirmed.

In the statement given to Billboard, Diana says “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” his publicist Diana Baron said in a statement. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Tim catapulted to fame back in 2011 when his hit single ‘Levels’ became one of the biggest EDM songs in the world. He has since released a string of hits such as ‘Wake Me Up,’ ‘Hey Brother’ and his latest Rita Ora-assisted hit ‘Lonely Together’.

RIP, Tim.
