Star Wars fans around the world are rejoicing as ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ makes its way to the cinema this weekend. The film unearths the origin story of Hans Solo. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
It’s The Hans Solo Story We Needed
You can’t help but fall in love with Hans Solo over the films but this story gives us some insight into how Hans Solo eventually becomes a fighter for the resistance. Hans was originally a scoundrel and a thief and the film explores his one biggest flaw – his good heart. Throughout the film, Hans discovers that helping people gives him great comfort and the development of the character throughout the film is wonderful to watch.
Hans’ Relationship With Chewbacca explained
They’re one of the greatest teams in the universe and ‘Solo’ explores just how Hans and Chewbacca became the most unlikely friends. I’m not going to get into the story too much but Hans’ desperateness and good heart attracts Chewbacca and the two often sacrifice for each other. These set the course for their strong friendship that comes in handy quite a few times in the future.
The Love Story
In ‘Solo’, we meet Qi’ra – one of Hans’ childhood friends and early lovers. The two were separated trying to escape his home planet of Corellia. However, they were separated at Hans vowed to find her no matter what. Naturally, their reunion isn’t without complications and it’s explored nicely throughout the film.
There Are Some Great New Characters
The film explores some important characters who had a massive impact on a young Hans Solo. Woody Harrelson plays Tobias Beckett – a guy who ultimately becomes Hans’ mentor. Qi’ra, played by Emily Clarke, plays his love interest as mentioned above, Paul Bettany plays an infamous crime lord and Thandie Newton plays Val Beckett, Tobias’ wife. We are also introduced to a young Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover, and get some insight into his relationship with Hans.
It’s An Epic Addition To The Star Wars World
Hans Solo is a fan-favourite. His character has, naturally, been an important part of the Star Wars world and it’s great to get more insight into who the character truly is. It’s jam-packed with action, suspense, twists and turns and although the story is generic and safe, fans around the world will really enjoy seeing this side of Hans Solo. The production is fantastic, the sets, costumes, props and various aliens are well-designed and it’s an all-round entertaining film.
‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ premieres around the world on Friday 25 April.
