It’s been incredible watching Armand Joubert’s transition from The Voice South Africa contestant to pop star. Over the past few months, he released his debut single ‘Should I’, which reached number one on the 5FM Pop Charts and ‘So Gone’ which topped the Jacaranda FM SA Top 20 just a few weeks ago. Now, as the star continues to find his rhythm in the pop music space, he’s dropped a new single titled ‘Sun Back’ – and it’s his best release to date.
The song sees the star continue to experiment within the electronic pop space. The production is on another level (it was was produced by Bubele Booi, who has produced for acts like Craig Lucas, Dominic Neill, Ryki and Lady Zamar) and is fierce, strong and impactful. It does, however, overshadow the star’s vocal performance at times which is a shame. Speaking about the vocals, Armand isn’t afraid to push himself as he effortlessly flip-flops between his lower register on the verses and his higher register during the chorus.
The song shows growth in Armand’s artistry and songwriting abilities which is always a fantastic thing to see. The star wrote the song alongside Jannes Erasmus and Ndumiso Manana and is the dancefloor-ready love track we were hoping for from Armand. “It’s about being in love and vibing with the ones you love. Put the sun back in sky, as in we choose our happiness, we choose to live our best lives,” Armand says adding that he believes so many people will identify with his message here. “I feel like the youth of today will identify with the song the most, but I also think that it will be the case where a young boy/girl plays the song to their parents and the whole family ends up digging it. I am very proud of this as my third single – great lyrical content with good rhythm and melody and is the perfect representation of the direction I want to go in with my music.”
‘Sun Back’ is now available on all major digital music platforms.
