One of my favourite things about Montecasino is that although the theme is set within the bustling streets of Tuscany, the complex offers exciting international culinary experiences. When visiting, you can ensure there is at least one restaurant that will offer any sort of food you crave – be it sushi, steak, Italian, Mexican, Greek, Indian, Chinese and everything else in between. The one thing the complex did lack, however, was a sports bar – and that’s all changed now that the Texan Wing Bar has opened it’s doors.
The restaurant prides itself on its Texan hospitality. With five 75” TVs in the selection of 21 TVs to choose from, you can be sure that the biggest sporting events are screened throughout the restaurant. The Texan Wing Bar has that sports bar look-and-feel that customers crave, but has an all-important upmarket vibe to it as well – which is it’s major differentiator. Leather Chesterfield couches, old-school saloon doors, beautiful brass finishes, an elegant bar and just the right amount of rustic-chic sets this exciting new restaurant apart. With a gorgeous view of the casino floor to go along with it’s rustic wooden interior, the setting, food and abundance of sports and music makes the Texan Wing Bar the perfect outing for families and friends alike.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the official launch event which gave me an inside look at what customers can expect. As the name suggests, the wings are a must. The restaurant serves a variety of breaded or unbreaded, traditional or boneless wings. Naturally, the wings are prepared using a variety of sauces. If you like a bit of sting with your wing, I’d highly recommend trying their signature J.R.U. Wing sauce.
However, if wing’s aren’t your thing (lol), the Texan Wing Bar also have some delicious pork and beef ribs, an array of gourmet burgers, a wide variety of steaks, salads, seafood dishes.
As expected, the beverage offering at the Texan Wing Bar is on point. While the cocktails could be improved, the restaurant offers an assortment of beers (with Budweiser being their beer of choice), spirits, wines and even champagne. This is on top of the usual soft drinks, coffees and juice offerings you’d find at almost any restaurant. The kids will fall in love with their gourmet milkshakes. They’re generous in size and have some unique flavouring. I’d suggest the Mississippi Mud Pie shake.
The Texan Wing Bar is also dedicated to ensuring that patrons have a good time. Besides ensuring that the biggest sporting events are always screened, the restaurant offers a quiz night every Wednesday evening and hope to introduce other exciting events to their calendar going forward.
General Manager Pieter Steyn reflects on the early days of Texan Wing Bar. “We realised that there was a great need in the market for a place that felt like home, so you’re comfortable to let your hair down, but also to ensure high standards of food and service, as well as keeping it classy, authentic and family-friendly. Those are many boxes to tick, but I feel we have managed to create just that, and the amazing response we’ve had reflects that!”
Mike Page, GM of Montecasino, says, “World-class hospitality and great experiences are the hallmark of all that Montecasino delivers, which means the Texan Wing Bar is an excellent fit in our wide range of entertainment offerings. We’ve no doubt that the best of America’s ‘Friendship’ state will be a huge hit to South Africans who are renowned for their passion for sports, great tasting food in hearty portions, and ice-cold beverages, as well as to our international guests. We look forward to many Texan-sized meals and exciting sports moments in the Texan Wing Bar.”
The Texan Wing Bar is an exciting new addition to the Montecasino property. The pricing is reasonable, the food is of high standard and the ambiance is something fresh yet familiar. The restaurant is now open and it’s an outing I highly recommend.
