Over the past few years, Lady Zamar has solidified her status as one of the greatest dance acts in South Africa. The star’s music has received tens of millions of views on YouTube and her album has been flying off the shelf. Now, in a recent interview, the singer says that South African talent is at an exceptional place and many acts have the potential to go international – they just don’t believe they have what it takes.

“I think we’ve got to a point where we can dominate international music. We are getting the exposure and more and more platforms to show our talent. We are being booked overseas and that is really exciting. In the last few years people are taking it more seriously,” she says.

The singer continues adding “We are at the point where some artists can go. The crowd may not know who we are but our talent is undeniable. I mean we still need to cultivate the local music scene and get better but we are at that level and we need to start pushing to get our name out there.”

The one thing that stands in the way of local talent reaching international ears is their own belief in themselves, the star adds. “I don’t know if it is because we are a little starstruck or it seems like too much of a step up but I feel like a lot of artists that have the talent are a little bit scared to go out and try make it. I guess it is about believing in yourself and maybe taking a brave step outside of your comfort zone.”

We all feel inadequate and scared to take the next step some times but it’s important to remember to believe in our vision and end goal and reach for the stars – and the star is proving that she is focused on her dream every day.
