American comedian Chris Tucker has officially landed in South Africa and as his South African tour kicks off, the comedian visited Easy Coast Radio where he opened up about finally performing in the country and gushed about some of his favourite celebrities.
Tucker, who is best known for playing the role of Detective James Carter in ‘Rush Hour’, said he was excited to be in Durban, “This is my first time in Durban…beautiful city; I was looking at it on the plane and flying over the city and man I am excited.” The comedian performs in Durban tonight before heading out to Johannesburg for a show on Saturday evening.
During the interview, Tucker also opened up about his friendship with Michael Jackson. “I think he knew I was a big fan of his because in every movie I always have something in it about Michael Jackson. I got influenced by him – growing up with Michael, like everybody else. I met all his family members before I met him…I wanted to meet Michael and I was like where is Michael?”
However, while the comedian clearly rolls with the rich and famous, he has also noticed the immense talent coming out of South Africa and candidly spoke about the waves Trevor Noah is making internationally. “I think [him being on The Daily Show] is great for comedy, Trevor Noah is smart and he’s coming from the outside looking in and some of the stuff he says makes people think. He is smart and I like his comedy a lot.”
