Trevor Noah knows more than anyone just how much help South Africans need. With many still living below the poverty line, the comedian is committed to using his influence and visibility to change the lives of countless South Africans as he launches his #GivingTuesdaySA Challenge.

Using the crowdfunding platform Backabuddy, the comedian is reaching out to fans of his from around the world to donate any amount they can to his new campaign which will see the proceeds go to the Trevor Noah Foundation. Furthermore, Noah has promised to match all the donations 1:1 up to R2 million!

As a thank you, each donation enters you to win VIP tickets to the upcoming Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg, a signed copy of Trevor’s memoir, Born a Crime, or tickets to see Trevor’s next comedy show in South Africa.

In a video released on social media, Trevor says “Our end goal is to get as many children who do not have access to education, educated. We want to get teachers the support they need because teachers are underpaid, and we want to make sure the people who educate those children are able to sustain themselves.”

The Trevor Noah Foundation was launched earlier this year driven by Trevor’s love for education, teachers, and giving kids an opportunity. “For me, I’ve come to realise the secret is great teachers. In my life and the lives of many other kids, one great teacher has made all the difference. To this day, business economics and history are my favourite subjects thanks to teachers like Mr. Darby and Mrs. Gold. My favourite teachers were those who engaged me in a way that made me feel like they loved the subjects as much as they wanted me to love it.”

Until today, Trevor has always been the foundation’s primary investor but he is now asking the public to back his vision and help scale the TNF’s impact and ensure no child gets left behind.

Trevor’s Challenge is in the spirit of #GivingTuesdaySA, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organisations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. This year’s #GivingTuesdaySA takes place on November 27th, kicking off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.

“On this giving Tuesday I’m excited to be donating more money into the Trevor Noah Foundation which supports schools and teachers around South Africa. I want to challenge you to do the same thing. If you donate, I’ll be donating whatever you do and matching it up to R2 million! Let’s make this happen!”
