South Africa is slowly but surely making an impact on the global entertainment space thanks to the support Netflix has given local content. The comedy ‘Catching Feelings’ featuring Kagiso Lediga and Pearl Thusi is already available worldwide and the streaming service has showcased the local comedy space by adding Loyiso Gola, Riaad Moosa, Tumi Morake and Loyiso Madinga to their ‘Comedians of the World’ special while also announcing it’s first scripted drama series titled ‘Queen Sono’. Now, Netflix has acquired a new local series titled ‘Shadow’ which will premiere globally on 8 March 2019.

According to Netflix, ‘Shadow’, which was shot in the heart of Johannesburg, will feature some incredible footage of the country while showcasing the incredible local talent.

Following the brutal and unjust murder of a young girl, Johannesburg detective and former task force specialist, Shadrach ‘Shadow’ Khumalo, quits his job to become a fixer for people who, like him, have been failed by the criminal justice system. With the help of his former partner, Shadow cuts a swathe through the city’s underworld taking full advantage of a rare condition that affects his central nervous system: he is impervious to physical pain.

The series promises to be action-packed and loaded with phenomenally choreographed fight scenes between Shadow and the villains of the underworld. Naturally, fans can expect some tender moments between Shadow and his love interest Ashley.

‘Shadow’ premieres on Netflix on 8 March 2019.
