After a nail-biting sixth season in the Philippines, viewership for Survivor South Africa skyrocketed proving that after all these years, the reality TV format is still as popular as ever. In fact, the show’s recent season also scored two SAFTA nominations in the best local version of an international format and Best Presenter categories. The high ratings convinced M-Net to jump straight into a seventh season ambiguously titled ‘Survivor South Africa: Island Of Secrets’. Now, as filming begins, the channel has announced that the new season is being filmed in the South Pacific island of Samoa.

Dashing Survivor South Africa host Nico Panagio made the announcement today on a video-reel shot on location, which was shared on social media.

However, while fans now officially know the location of the show’s next season, the channel is ensuring that everything else remains a secret for now. “Nico has mentioned that filming has started, but for now all further details remain top secret. What we can tell viewers, is that they must be prepared for twists and turns unlike anything they’ve seen on the show before,” M-Net’s Head of Pulicity Lani Lombard says. “It’s called Island of Secrets, after all. This group of Survivors consist of strong personalities from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Of course they know the ins and outs of the show. This makes every series more competitive than the ones that came before. They will have to play even harder and more strategically than castaways from previous seasons if they wish to go all the way.”

Survivor SA Season 7 starts on M-Net 101 on 16 May 2019.
