Today, local pop duo Easy Freak embark on a new era in their musical careers. As the duo, made up of Dominic Hurd and Jude Kenrick, ready their highly-anticipated second studio album (which drops later this year), they’ve teamed up with Darkie Fiction, made up of Katt Daddy and Yozi Mnyanda, for their new single ‘cometogether/uzobona’.

The single serves as the lead single off the group’s upcoming album and was born out of a very organic place – the acts’ respective love for each other. Easy Freak reveal that they have been inspired by the music Darkie Fiction have been releasing and ‘cometogether/uzobona’ is essentially an ode to the new acts taking the local music scene by storm.

“The song is about this new wave of young artists that are bubbling in the music scene. People like Darkie Fiction, Muzi, Langa Mavuso, Red Robyn (and so many others) are creating waves and we’re so honoured to be a part of that collective,” Easy Freak say in a statement. “Uzobona means ‘you’ll see’ in Xhosa. The track is about sticking to your dreams, putting in the work and telling people that they’re gonna see you at the top soon.”

Sonically, the song is proudly South African as it blends Easy Freak’s slick pop and electronic influences with Darkie Fiction’s eclectic mix of kwaito, afro-funk, neo-soul and hip-hop. “We always want our music to make people feel something significant, whether it’s feeling hyped about yourself vibing to one of our feel-good tracks or whether it’s feeling nostalgic listening to one of our slower, more gentle tracks,” Easy Freak continues. “This track is definitely one for the people who gotta hype themselves up every now and again.”

‘cometogether/uzobona’ is now available on all major digital music platforms.
