While the country cant seem to stop talking about the upcoming Ed Sheeran shows this coming week, Big Concerts is here to subtly remind us that their next superstar is also a mere days away from performing live. Sam Smith will perform in the country for the very first time this April and now, the promoter has revealed that newcomer Bonj will be opening for the star on his upcoming South African shows.

While Bonj is still relatively new to the local music space, her husky voice and incredible talent makes her the perfect Sam Smith opening act. After graduating from the National School of the Arts in 2007, Bonj began her singing career in earnest. She has performed alongside many great South African artists such Mafikizolo, Zakes Bantwini, Zonke, Lady Zamar and many more. She recently wrote a song called Ndaweni on Anatii’s highly acclaimed sophomore album Iyeza.

In 2009 she relocated to Cape Town and began studies in Jazz music at UCT. After her studies, in 2017 Bonj moved back to Johannesburg to pursue her musical career.

Her career took an incredible turn afterr multi-award winning singer, songwriter and producer Tresor signed her to his record label Jacquel Entertainment Group, in partnership with Universal Music Group.

Bonj will be releasing new music soon and her debut album later this year.
