Local pop duo, Locnville, are known to bring the hits. They’re currently dominating the local airwaves with Pascal & Pearce on their latest single ‘I Got You Babe’ and now, they’ve teamed up with American musician DJ Afterthought for their new single ‘Paid’. The song, however, is different to any other Locnville single because the duo only appear on the production with DJ Afterthought taking reign of the track’s vocals.
The single, titled ‘Paid’, sees the group continue to experiment with various electronic and hip-hop influences and DJ Afterthought gives a striking vocal performance on the track. The rapper is currently on tour in New Zealand and Australia with Lil Yachty, Troyboi and P-Money and is making waves in the hip-hop space internationally. Teaming up with Locnville, the rapper shows fans a new artistic side to him and proves he has a lot more up his sleeve.
The song is the first Locnville single which doesn’t feature them on any of the vocals. “This track is a beauty. It actually started out as a remix of a much slower sort of hip-hop track that Afterthought sent us. We loved the sound and wanted to take a different spin on it. The reception was so good that it’s now become the original track which is just incredible. It’s an epic feeling and I’m super grateful,” Locnville’s Andrew Chaplin tells us.
Brian Chaplin goes onto explain, “Paid is one of my favorite tracks of all time. There’s just such a great story behind how it all came together. Having Afterthought’s vocal over the driving beat just did something for me the first time we started working on it, and it’s developed into its own sound completely. Paid is a classic.”
Meanwhile, DJ Afterthought adds, “I wanted to get a bit out of my comfort zone and reach different levels of my vocal progression. Many revisits and tweaks occurred along the way. Linking up with Locnville really brought a new vision to life and we were able to capture lightning in a bottle.”
‘Paid’ is now available on all major digital music platforms.
