The Ndlovu Youth Choir have had an incredible journey on America’s Got Talent over the past few weeks and on Tuesday 4 September, the group put their authentic South African spin on Kygo and Whitney Huston’s brand-new hit ‘Higher Love’.
The choir has reached the semi-finals of the world’s biggest talent show and dedicated their incredible performance to “the spirit of humanity”. Shortly after the performance, the group shared their cover on their social media pages saying “We pray that our performance was a reminder to the world that we are all connected by our spirit of humanity. Love is an unbreakable force which will always conquer hate.”
The group is now battling it out for a spot in the finals – a place judge Simon Cowell says that the group truly deserves.
This is The Ndlovu Youth Choir’s fourth performance on the show. The group has previously performed covers of ‘My African Dream’, ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Beautiful Day’.
Many South Africans have woken up inspired by the performance – especially after the somber few days following the xenophobic attacks that have plagued the country as well as the outrage over the various crimes women are subjected to on a daily basis in this country. “This must be the first thing you watch this morning! SA this is who we are, not the narrative we’ve been watching unfold on our streets. @choirafrica we are behind you 100%,” Morning Live host Leeanne Manas tweeted.
America’s Got Talent is a reality show showcasing people with extraordinary talents. Hosted by Terry Crews and judges by Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and Howie Mandel, the show continues to gain popularity with every passing season.
