South African music is in the best place its ever been. The world is finally sitting up and taking note of the incredible sounds and talents coming out of this country and in a new piece published by CNN where they list the best artists out of the continent, Busiswa and Sho Madjozi make the cut.
The list highlights ten acts from around the country who are doing big things when it comes to their music. Alongside the South African vocalists, the news company also highlighted the incredible work Burna Boy, Angelique Kidjo, Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Mr.Eazi and Slapdee have done in their respective territories.
In the article, the artists were praised for their global impact. CNN made mention of Sho Madjozi’s BET Awards win earlier this year. “South African singer Sho Madjozi won the 2019 BET New International Act. In her acceptance speech, she said: ‘My story is a testament that you can come from any village, in any forgotten part of the world and still be a superstar’.” CNN added that “South African singer-songwriter and poet Busiswa Gqulu gained prominence after featuring on popular SA DJ Zinhle’s song, My Name Is.”
Naturally, both acts are thrilled to be called one of Africa’s 10 Best Artists for 2019. “(I) won’t even front. I can’t believe I’m on this list, YIKESSSS !!!” Busiswa said in a tweet.
