Earlier this week, Beyoncé announced that she has teamed up with Disney+ to release her next visual project ‘Black Is King’ on 31 July. The project celebrates black resilience and culture and is based on the music of ‘The Lion King: The Gift’.
In the just-released trailer, Beyoncé features some local personalities including Trevor Stuurman, Nandi Madida, Connie Chiume, Moonchild Sanelly, John Kani, Gemaen Taylor and Warren Masemola.
“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa,” Beyoncé said in a recent interview. “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”
